This is straight from the LAPD website about their cadets having tattoos, "Q: Will my tattoos affect my ability to become an officer?

A: It depends on the nature of the tattoo(s). Candidates with tattoos are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Candidates with tattoos who are subsequently hired must ensure that the tattoos are not visible to the public while on-duty"

I have also found that many government jobs whether it be the ATF, DEA, FBI, etc. don't care if you have tattoos as long as said tattoos are not visible to when your are in your uniform such as the tattoo being on your head, neck, and hand but also the tattoo must not be anything obscene, racist or gang-related. Their main goal is to keep their agents looking good so the public knows that they are same from our countries enemies.
